  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Professor John Sinclair is an Honorary (Professorial Fellow) in the School of Culture and Communications at the University of Melbourne. In 2002 he was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, and in 2003 he was awarded a Centenary of Federation Medal for service to Australian society and the humanities in the study of cultural and media studies. During 2009-2012 he was Head of the Cultural and communication Studies Section of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.

    Professor Henry Mayer (1919-1991) was a tutor at Melbourne University before joining the Department of Government and Public Administration, University of Sydney, in 1950. He was appointed Professor of Political Theory in 1970 and held this position until his retirement in 1984. From 1976 until his death, Mayer voluntarily edited Media Information Australia.

    12 typed and signed letters and notes written by Professor Henry Mayer and sent to John Sinclair, providing mentorship and advice to Sinclair as a student completing his Master's and PhD in Media Studies at La Trobe University. Many of the letters discuss articles Sinclair was writing or proposing to write for Media Information Australia, which Mayer edited.
