Henry Hewitt Vallis was born in 1869 at Warialda, NSW. He married Mary Esther McLauchlan in 1897 at Inverell, NSW and their first son, Henry Raymond Vallis was born the following year on 26 June 1898 at Bingara, NSW. Both men were still living in the area when Henry R. Vallis joined the Australian Imperial Force on 11 May 1916. Henry was listed as an 'Acting Bombadier' and was discharged on 9 August 1919. The business in Oxford Street Epping, trading as H.H. Vallis and Son, was listed for sale in 1922.
