    E. G. (Eben Gowrie) Waterhouse was born in Sydney in 1881 and died aged 96 on 17 August 1977.
    In the course of his teaching career, Professor Waterhouse was Master of Modern Languages at Sydney Grammar School, Senior Lecturer in Modern languages at Sydney Teachers College and Associate Professor then Professor of German and Comparative Literature at the University of Sydney until his retirement in 1945.
    Professor Waterhouse also co-founded the Australian and New Zealand Camellia Research Society and wrote two books, Camellia Quest (1947) and Camellia Trail (1952). He founded the Camellia Grove nursery at St Ives in 1939 and was a member of the board of the International Camellia Society for many years.

    Collection of correspondence and clippings related to E. G. Waterhouse, camellias and the Australian Camellia Research Society, 1965-1997. Includes two letters and a postcard from E. G. Waterhouse to Allan Swinbourne, 1965-1975, an invitation from Mrs. Doris Hirst to visit her garden in Castle Hill, NSW, 1965, three articles on the Society, 1977-1997, a copy of the Society's March 1984 newsletter and a copy of 'Eryldene Programme 1990 presented by the Friends of Eryldene'.
