  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Alan Leslie Whiting (1924-1987) was the son of Arthur Barton Whiting and Doris Amy (nee Stewart). Arthur Whiting and his brothers Oswald and Frederick came to Australia from London to take up irrigation land in 1912. The brothers were granted farms in Griffith, New South Wales. Alan Leslie Whiting married Ruth McKearn and had two daughters.

  • Scope and Content
    2 bound photograph albums and several loose photographic prints consisting of a total of 1 232 black and white photographic prints.

    The smaller album consists of 276 photographs of the Hume Weir in Albury, mine sites at Broken Hill, Wentworth, Mount Gambier, Port Fairy, Ballarat, Belmore Falls, Macquarie Pass, Mount Druitt, Gosford, Mortlake gas works, motorcycle racing at Bathurst, Sydney, Burragorang, Yerranderrie and family portraits.

    The larger album labelled 'A.L. Whiting' on the cover consists of 945 photographs of grapevines, orchards, fruit farms and machinery in Griffith, Murrumbidgee River, Darling Point Bridge, Yanco Weir, Stanwell Park, Snapper Rock, camping at Bundeena, Gunya Beach, beehives at Grenfell, baths at Maitland, road to Wyangala, Bobbin Head, Taren Point, Avon Dam, Cordeaux Dam, Cataract Dam, Fitzroy Falls, Kangaroo Valley, Woronora Dam, motorcycle racing at Mount Panorama Bathurst, The Skillion, The Entrance, motorcycle sporting trials at Kellyville, Armidale, and family portraits including childhood photographs of Joan and Alan, Joan's wedding, Joyce, Reg and Judith and other family gatherings and holidays.
