    Mel G. Lawton (1900-1979) was the General Manager of the Prince Edward Theatre, Sydney in 1929, which he held for 35 years until the theatre closed down in 1965, shortly before being demolished. In 1937 he was elected president of the 47 Club (Motion Picture Advertising Club) for the second time, having been president in 1930 when the club was formed.

    Daniel Joseph Carroll (1886-1959) was a theatre and film entrepreneur who together with his brother Edward built the Prince Edward Theatre in Sydney in 1924.

    John E. Kennebeck was the Managing Director of Paramount Pictures Australia in 1936.

    Black leather bound scrapbook. Includes typescript memorandum from Dan Carroll to Cabinet subcommittee, 16 November 1938, requesting foreign films be shown in NSW and requesting theatre registration fees be used as a subsidy for the development of Australian production films; a letter from John E. Kennebeck (Managing Director of Paramount Pictures Australia) to Lawton regarding an honourable mention at the Quigley Awards for advertising campaigns; and other letters regarding stage show productions for the Prince Edward Theatre. Also includes theatre programs for Australian and international theatres including the Padua Hoyts in Melbourne, Ozone Theatre Glenelg, Anzac House Appeal ‘Front Line Show’, Regent Theatre Mudgee, Wintergarden Theatre, Warner Theatre New York City, and Paramount Theatre; typescript copies of articles, and newspaper clippings relating to the motion picture industry. Includes black and white photograph of Inspector King trying to hold back the crowd as Bob Hope enters the Prince Edward Theatre and several unidentified photographs.
