Members of the King family were significant figures in the early years of Australia’s history.

Philip Gidley King (1758-1808) arrived on the First Fleet as second lieutenant of HMS Sirius. He established the settlement on Norfolk Island and was the third governor of New South Wales.

Elizabeth Maria Goldfinch (1867-1933) was daughter of Elizabeth Macarthur and Philip Gidley King (1817-1904), the eldest son of Admiral Phillip Parker King (1791-1856), who was the son of Captain Philip Gidley King (1758-1808). Elizabeth Maria Goldfinch was born at Elizabeth Farm, Parramatta, the home of her maternal grandfather, Hannibal Hawkins Macarthur and in 1881 she married Lieutenant Henry Edward Goldfinch.
