  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The New Lambton Colliery, Newcastle, was established by brothers James and Andrew Brown, who began to work the coal on the New Lambton Estate in 1967.

    Beaufoy Merlin began his photographic career in Victoria in 1866, later forming the American and Australasian Photographic Company with Charles Bayliss.

    Carte de visite photograph of a coal mine site showing a group of men standing in front of plant equipment, a coal loader, and mine carts. ‘New Lambton Colliery’ is displayed on a building sign in the background. It is possible that the two men on the far left wearing waistcoats are mine owners and brothers Alexander and James Brown.
