  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Alexander Brodie (approximately 1829-1894) was a professional photographer who owned a photography studio in Sydney in the 1870s. In 1872, J.R. Clarke published Brodie's photographs of the city, suburbs and harbour of Sydney.

    Jacob Richard Clarke (1822-1893) was a music publisher and bookseller from Taunton, Somerset, England and settled in Sydney around 1853. Clarke provided a display of photographs at the opening of the Sydney General Post Office in 1874 and published a series of carte-de-visite-sized views of Sydney around the same time.
