    Wrapper for Carton 14 Dossier 281 A 1-7 and B 1-5. [A-7 not included]
    1. ‘Extrait d’une lettre de Mr de Humboldt à Mr de Freycinet: Influence régulière des longitudes et des latitudes sur les hauteurs du Baromètre’ (1 page, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 281 A-1), [in Louis de Freycinet’s hand]. Concerning the observations of Mr Erman (particularly as regards Kamtschatka [Kamchatka]). Includes calculations. With other calculations on reverse of sheet, crossed out.
    2. ‘Extrait d’une lettre de Mr Alexandre de Humboldt à Mr Louis de Freycinet’ (1 page, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 281 A-2). Second version of previous letter.
    3. ‘Réponse de Mr Louis de Freycinet à la letter précédente: Influence des longitudes et des latitudes sur les hauteurs du baromètre’ (2 pages on a single folded sheet, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 281 A-3), being a detailed listing of 7 points, including variations as measured on board the Uranie.
    4. ‘Résumé des observations barométriques...’ (1 large folded sheet, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 281 A-4), being a table with calculations in Freycinet’s hand, including small ‘Nota Bene’ tipped in. Compares the results of the Uranie voyage with those of Captain Beechey [presumably from the published account of Beechey, 1831]. (Located at Box 4/Item 1)
    5. ‘Réponse de Mr de Freycinet à Mr de Humboldt’ (1 page, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 281 A-5), with 7 numbered points including measurements, relating to the previous table.
    6. ‘Corrections des hauteurs des baromètres de l’Uranie...’ (1 page, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 281 A-6), being technical notes on comparisons of the ‘Fortin’ barometer with another on board, including one observation made in Port Jackson.

    Wrapper for Dossier 281 B
    7. ‘Questions adressées par Mr de Humboldt à Mr de Freycinet’ and ‘Réponse’ (4 pages, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 281 B-1), including extract of Humboldt’s letter (24 February 1827) and draft of Freycinet’s response (28 February 1827), the latter heavily edited.
    8. ‘Lettre adressée par Mr de Humboldt... la température de la mer’ (2 pages, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 281 B-2), including a partial draft of Freycinet’s reply, crossed through.
    9. ‘Réponse à la lettre précédente par Mr de Freycinet’ (2 pages, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 281 B-3), being Freycinet’s draft reply to the previous letter.
    10. ‘Par les observations partielles’ (2 pages pinned together with original hand-made pin, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 281 B-4, some water damage), being temperature observations of the sea and the air on the Uranie voyage.
    11. ‘Comparaisons de la température de la Mer...’ (booklet of 6 pages on 3 folded sheets, with Laage archive stamp, Dossier 281 B-5), comprising manuscript tables of detailed measurements of the temperature of the sea and the air taken throughout the Uranie voyage, 7 November 1817 - 4 November 1820. One series of observations, for example, was made in the Indian Ocean ‘entre le Cap. de B. Espérance. et la N. Hollande’ (15 April - 6 September 1818).
