  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Frederick Harold “Harry” Campbell was born in Belfast, North Ireland on 10 April 1907. His family sailed for Australia in November 1919, arriving in Sydney on 24 January 2020. Originally based in Newtown, Harry attended Newtown Superior Technical High School and the Royal Art Society. He commenced work as an artist in 1923 with W.T. Baker & Co., followed by employment as an artist and copywriter with Sales and Advertising Ltd, Sydney from 1925-1928. Harry joined the Sydney Sun in March 1928, where he worked until 1967 in both freelance and permanent roles. He also contributed humorous cartoons and drawings for various other titles. Harry was also an accomplished boxer, and served in the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II. He died on 29 January 1989.
