    Interviewed over two days, theatre and film director Jim Sharman discusses his childhood and early influences before speaking at length about his productions and career.

    In interview one, Jim discusses his early life growing up as an only child in Sydney, New South Wales and how being part of a travelling boxing troupe, the Sharman Troupe, run by his grandfather and father left a lasting impression on his theatrical imagination. Jim also speaks about his studies at NIDA, his interest in German theatre and film, directing at the Cellblock, Wayside and AMP Lunchtime theatres and staging the full production of Jesus Christ Superstar with Harry M. Miller.

    In interview two, Jim talks about directing in theatre in London at the Royal Court Theatre where he staged early plays of David Williamson and Sam Shepard and developed the Rocky Horror Show. He also discusses Patrick White, directing 'Chess' at the Theatre Royal and more recent endeavours including staging Shakespeare for the Bell Shakespeare and mentoring the Sydney Theatre Company's Kip Williams.
