    Robert W. Emery was born in Bath, England in 1861 the son of Henry and Jane Emery. On the 10 June 1880, Robert sailed on the 'Peterborough' bound for Booligal, New South Wales (via Sydney), where he worked on a sheep station.

    Donor inherited the journal from his father and has no further information regarding provenance.
  • Scope and Content
    A handwritten journal by Robert W. Emery describing his journey from Plymouth, England to Booligal, New South Wales in 1880. The journal is written in ink in a lined exercise book and includes an account of living and sailing conditions onboard the schooner, ‘Peterborough’ and anecdotes about passengers and crew. Emery also describes arriving at Port Jackson and being quarantined at Watson’s Bay, Sydney, and the rail trip from Sydney to Wagga Wagga followed by the final leg by mail coach to Booligal on the Lachlan River.
