  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Herbert Leslie Whittle was born in Victoria in 1906 and married Ivy Anne Baines in 1928. The Whittles had two children, Betty Patricia and John. Herbert was a cabinet maker and keen amateur photographer.

    Donor is a granddaughter of the creator and inherited the collection from her mother, Betty Cashman (nee Whittle).
  • Scope and Content
    A collection of 258 photographic prints documenting the lives of the Whittle family of Marrickville and Saratoga, New South Wales, 1920s to 1950s, and 1976.

    Includes photographs of Herbert, Ivy, Betty and John Whittle, the extended Whittle family and friends. Also included is a colour photograph of Herbert Whittle at his 70th birthday party in 1976 and a colourised photograph of Elizabeth Duffel, 1923.
