The Antill Pockley family was established in 1854 when ship captain Robert Francis Pockley married Selina Eliza Antill in Camden, New South Wales. Their son, Dr Francis Antill Pockley, was a surgeon on the staff of the Royal North Shore Hospital and married Helen Hooke in 1885. The couple went on to have five children including Dr Brian Colden Antill (1890-1914), the first Australian officer to be killed in World War One, and John Graham Antill (1891-1918), a farmer and soldier who was killed during the Second Battle of Villers-Bretonneux in 1918.
