The Deaf Women’s Guild of Sydney was officially established in 1923. The guild went through several changes between 1927-1934. In 1928 there was a split in the deaf community caused by the controversial appointment of a new welfare officer to the Deaf Society. This led to the formation of the NSW Association of Deaf and Dumb Citizens. Many of the members of the Deaf Women’s Guild formed a Deaf Ladies Club which functioned alongside the guild. After the 1934 Charities Collection Act both the Deaf Women’s Guild and the Deaf Ladies club were merged as the Deaf Women’s Guild. The guild has continued to serve the Deaf Community in New South Wales through its social activities and fundraising events.
