W.J. Swan, artist and designer, had a studio at Phillip House, 109-119 Phillip Street, Sydney, New South Wales. He specialised in 'illustrations, cartoons, commercial designs, decorations posters'.

1 scrapbook (52 x 30.5 x 5 cm, 228 pages). Pasted into the scrapbook are more than 500 printed examples of Swan’s designs including brochures, booklets, pamphlets and billheads, newspaper and magazine clippings and ephemera.

The designs were completed for clients including Penfolds wines; Goodyear Australia; Westcott; the Sydney Milk Board (letterhead and calling card); the Model Flying Company of Australia (membership card and letterhead); Edward Arnold Ltd (pictorial letterhead and billhead); the City Hatters; the Permanent Trustee of NSW (booklet); Stromberg-Carlson (booklets and newspaper advertisements for radio & electrical apparatus); and Henry F H Halloran & Co. (newspaper and real estate advertisements). Also included are examples of the designs of numerous food labels including for Allowrie Cheese, Gold Palm Seafood and the Sydney Grocery Ltd.
