Louis Vasco was born Vasco Loureiro in Brixton, London in 1882. His father, Arthur Jose Loureiro was an accomplished artist, originally from Portugal. The family emigrated to Australia in 1885 and Vasco grew up in Melbourne, studying at the National Gallery of Victoria from 1902-1905.
Vasco enlisted in the A.I.F. in 1916 and was deployed to France in May 1917. He died of menangitis on 3 August 1918 and was buried at St Alban's Hatfield Road Cemetery, London.
