James George Tedder, Area Officer of Belmore, N.S.W. served as a lieutenant in the 2nd Regiment, NSW Mounted Rifles (Colonel Williams' Column) during the Boer War. He also served in World War I, embarking from Melbourne, Vic. on board HMAT A24 Benalla, 19 Oct. 1914. He was present at the landing of troops at Anzac, 25 Apr. 1915 and after disembarking Engineers and others proceeded to Imbros before returning to Anzac for wounded. He was promoted to Major July 1915 and Lieut. Colonel in Sept. 1915. He embarked for England 27 June 1916, was hospitalised with bronchitis Jan. 1917 and returned to Australia on the D22 Arawa, Sept. 1918

A Boer War diary, four World War I photographs and a photographic portrait from the collection of James George Tedder (1862-1931).
The diary was written while on active service in South Africa with the 2nd Regiment, New South Wales Mounted Rifles, 1 January-1 June 1902, and provides a record of troop movements, casualties (including horses) and day-to-day activities. Accompanying the diary is a typed, annotated transcript by Ian J. Tedder, April 2019.
