    English born, naturalist and botanist, Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820) was a prolific letter writer. He was President of the Royal Society and patron of the natural sciences His correspondence was global in circulation and broad in content.

    Thomas Andrew Knight (1759-1838) was a distinguished British naturalist and botanist who is often regarded as the father of nineteenth-century horticultural science.

    Purchased by vendor from the estate of a long-term client.
  • Scope and Content
    A handwritten letter from Sir Joseph Banks, Soho Square, London, to British horticulturalist and botanist, Thomas Andrew Knight, 3 March 1810. In the letter Banks discusses the circulation of sap in plants and thanks Knight for a gift of apples, peaches and strawberries. The letter is three pages long and is written in ink on a folded sheet of paper.
