    Daniel Taylor was born in Chelsea, Middlesex, England in 1837. It is not known when he came to Australia, but in 1862 he married Elizabeth Frazer in Richmond, New South Wales, with whom he had nine children. In 1877, Taylor took up the position of station manager of Caigan, near Mendooran. Five years later, in 1882, he was managing Kulendi (also spelled Keelendi) Station, near Pilliga. He died in 1888 from the effects of overexertion in extinguishing bush fires and is buried in Pilliga Cemetery.

  • Scope and Content
    This collection contains two diaries (1877, 1882) by Daniel Taylor relating to his pastoral activities as manager of the sheep stations of Caigan and Kulendi (also spelled Keelindi) in New South Wales, as well as seven photographs of Daniel Taylor and three other family members (1867 and undated).

    1. Diary and almanac ‘for 1877’. Consists of brief daily entries in ink recording Taylor’s work as manager of Caigan Station. 15.8 x 10 cm, some loose pages.

    2. Pocket notebook, 11 July - 1 October 1882. Contains brief daily entries relating to the running of Kulendi Station. 7.2 x 11.5 cm, text block detached from wrapper.

    3. Seven photographs with captions in ink on reverse: ‘Daniel Taylor (Dad’s Grandfather). Circa 1867’; ‘Daniel Taylor (Dad’s Grandfather’); ‘Mr. D. Taylor’; ‘Daniel Taylor?’; ‘Em at 15. Sister of Alice Taylor Ferguson’; 'Grandma Taylor. Coonamble’; Elizabeth Taylor?’.
