  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Frances Emily Mary Moore (1863-1941) was the eldest daughter of Henry Newcomen, owner of Angeldool Station in upper Western NSW, 45 kilometres north of Lightning Ridge. She married Robert Lismore Moore (1847-1912) in 1882. In 1873 Moore had become manager of Angledool Station for Henry Newcomen and changed the run from cattle station to a sheep station. After 34 years at Angeldool the Moores left to take charge of Bogamildi Station near Moree in 1907, and retired in 1911, purchasing a property named Cookooboonah, near Gunnedah.

  • Scope and Content
    40 manuscript diaries in ink and pencil from October 24, 1880 to December 31, 1922 and several diaries cover more than one year. Interleaved in a number of the diaries are letters, 12 photographs, recipes, her daughter’s wedding invitation, receipts, accounts, names and addresses and newscuttings.

    These diaries document the daily life of a station manager’s wife in north-western New South Wales over a period of 42 years and records details of family life, work, hardships, the weather, her correspondence, visitors, social events, excursions and her husband’s activities.
