  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Rae Desmond Jones, poet, novelist and politician, was born in Broken Hill in 1941. He left school at 14 years of age and worked in a variety of manual occupations until he entered Sydney University in 1974 with WEA support. He worked for some years in the Commonwealth Employment Service before becoming a history teacher at Dulwich High School. He was active in the Teachers’ Federation and from 2004 to 2006 was Mayor of Ashfield. He published his first book of poetry, Orpheus with a Tuba, in 1973 and went on to publish another ten poetry books, two novels and a collection of short stories. He died in 2017.

  • Scope and Content
    Eleven homemade Christmas cards each containing a poem, with one postcard and one loose poem. The Christmas cards are printed computer typescript copies on folded paper, with manuscript annotations. Collection compiled by Marion MacKinnon.
