    Land & Environment Planning (LEP) is a small, single person environmental planning consultancy founded by the donor in 1993 and based in Singleton, NSW. Specialising in biodiversity and natural resources planning and management, it undertook project work primarily for local and state government clients during a period when the significance of biodiversity and threatened species was receiving widespread recognition. The initial work of the consultancy led to the production of the Biodiversity Planning Guide for NSW Local Government (2000) which was awarded The National Planning Ministers Award by the Royal Planning Institute in 2002.

  • Scope and Content
    Records of Land & Environment Planning Consultancy, 1986-2014, including photographs, reports and associated documents, projects, assessments, proposals, strategy briefs, notes and drafts of conference papers, environmental studies, local responses, correspondence, research material, draft notes for published papers and presentations, maps and publicity material. Material relates to local government areas including Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Singleton, Cessnock Kiama, Camden Wagga Wagga, Armidale, Byron, Walcha, Dungog, Baulkham Hills, and Shellharbour. Covers the period from the commencement of the consultancy in 1993 to 2006 together with earlier consultancy proposals, 1986-87.

    Green folder includes consultancy proposals 1986 to 1987 (before LEP commenced), including correspondence and arrangements with Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin (WZB) in Berlin in 2000, correspondence relating to professional indemnity insurance, and first LEP consultancy proposal in April 1994. Includes CVs for other people interested in working collaboratively.

    1999 to 2002 – Land & Environment Planning
    Documents and files associated with the production of the Biodiversity Planning Guide for NSW Local Government, published by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service in 2000. Includes drafts, publicity materials, consultation, correspondence and miscellaneous related information. This document was awarded the National Planning Ministers Award by the Royal Australian Planning Institute in 2002, and also received a number of other commendations.
    Also includes materials related to the preparation of the Planning Framework for Natural Ecosystems for the ACT and NSW Southern Tablelands, including draft reports contractual information, etc 2001 to 2002.

    2000 to 2001 – Land & Environment Planning
    Various documents and reports associated with a range of projects, including Newcastle Biodiversity Strategy for Newcastle City Council, work on development approval for Australian EcoForest project near Stroud, expert evidence for court case at Bryan Avenue, Normanhurst for Hornsby Council (Abbot Tout), planning seminar for capacity building for environmental impact assessment of projects, green corridors strategy for Upper Parramatta River Catchment Trust, ecological review for electricity lines at Glenmore Park for Integral Energy, and other miscellaneous projects.
    Includes work for Singleton Council in relation to development application refusal of development application DA 85/2000 for proposed service station on Bridgman Road, Singleton. Includes photographs of site and Singleton floodplain.
    Also includes Fauna Impact Statement review work for Hornsby Shire Council in 1993 that later led to the Hornsby Council Flora and Fauna Corridors Study.

    Planning NSW/Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources – Preparation of Urban Salinity Planning Guidelines 2002 – 2004. Includes workshop notes for Central West NSW and Blacktown, paper to Thredbo PIA conference, and case study projects for Wagga, Maitland, Camden and Forbes. Resulted in preparation of draft Urban Salinity Planning Guide (Dec 2003), model LEP provisions for urban salinity, a draft Section 117 direction, published information brochure on Planning for Urban Salinity, and extensive local government engagement.
