Thomas Cook was a global travel company founded by Thomas Cook, a cabinet-maker, in 1841 to carry temperance supporters by railway between the cities of Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Birmingham. In 1871 Thomas Cook & Son was established. By 1888, the company had already established offices worldwide, including three in Australia and one in New Zealand. Thomas Cook operated in Australia until 2000, when it sold its Australian businesses.

This collection provides anyone researching the travel industry with resources of a travel and tourism business prior to the digital revolution and the globalisation of business.

This collection comprises of scrapbooks of clippings on Thomas Cook travel business, 'Interact' magazines, holiday brochures, foreign exchange manuals and information on Silverton Tramway.
