Mary Rose Liverani migrated with her family from Scotland to Wollongong, area of New South Wales when she was thirteen years old. Her autobiography, The Winter Sparrows: growing up in Scotland and Australia (1975), tells the story of her childhood in the Glasgow slums and her new life in Australia.
