  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Sir James Graham was born in Edinburgh in 1856, and educated at the University of Edinburgh. In 1884 he migrated to Sydney where he became a resident medical officer at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. A year later he resigned to lecture in anatomy at the University of Sydney, later lecturing to nurses in clinical medicine and midwifery. Graham was an elected member of the Legislative Assembly from 1894-1901 and 1907-1910. He died in 1913.

  • Collection history
    By descent from donor’s father, who is thought to have been given the letters by the creator’s daughter-in-law.
  • Scope and Content
    Papers including letters received, letters of recommendation and certificates of appointment at the University of Sydney. Correspondents include Dr Joseph Bell, Professor John Chiene, Victor Child Villiers (the 7th Earl of Jersey and Governor of NSW) and Sir Lewis Beaumont (Commander-in-Chief of the Australia Station).
