  • Scope and Content
Autograph letter from John Oxley, Surveyor General, to Richard Fitzgerald of Windsor, dated 4 November 1825, with accompanying envelope. This letter is a response by Oxley, on behalf of the governor, Sir Thomas Brisbane, to a request by Fitzgerald for a grant of land (adjoining Fitzgerald’s land at Rylstone) on which to graze a herd of cattle belonging to Mrs (Lachlan) Macquarie. Oxley informs Fitzgerald that the governor has agreed to let him have 2000 acres “which shall be reserved for her use” until the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Lord Bathurst, confirms that this land can be made into a grant.
