    This maquette or small statue is a sculptor's small preliminary model. It was for the statue of Captain William Bligh which was erected in 1987 to 'restore the proper image of a much maligned and gallant man'. The original statue is located at George Street, Bligh Reserve, The Rocks, 2000. Marc Clark was the sculptor and Peter Tonkin was the architect. Unveiled by David McNicoll on Friday 18th December, 1987.

    David McNicoll campaigned and raised money for the erection of the statue. Bob Carr, Minister of Planning in the Wran government made the dedication speech.

    Comprises a bronze statue of Captain William Bligh in a standing position with arms crossed. He is wearing the uniform and a bicorne or lippitt hat of a British naval officer.
