    The sonnet ‘Johnny Fawkner’s Press’ first appeared in the Australasian Printers’ Keepsake (1885) and was reprinted on the Fawkner press by A.R. Turnbull in 1942 for the Fawkner Sesquicentenary.

  • Scope and Content
    Comprises a framed, calligraphed sonnet ‘Johnny Fawkner’s Press’, followed by a short description about John Pascoe Fawkner and his printing press. At the bottom is written ‘Inscribed by A.R. Turnbull, 1943’ and ‘To The Right Honorable Sir Isaac A. Isaacs, P.C., G.C.B, G.C.M.G., K.C. and Lady Isaacs’.

    Verso contains the notes ‘With Compliments of A.R. Turnbull, 4 Aug. 1944’ and ‘John Pascoe Fawkner Melbourne Pioneer. Re-inscribed on Photo of Original. Another Photo. is in the Public Library Melbourne.’
