Rosalie Ann Thorne (1850-1927) was the third daughter of George Thorne and Elizabeth Ann Thorne, nee Bisdee. Their family home, Claremont, was built in about 1851 on part of the Wentworth estate in Vaucluse. Thorne was friends with Rebecca Martens, who mentored the younger woman while sketching together, and she was possibly a student of Rebecca's father, Conrad Martens. In 1871 Thorne married naturalist Francis Watkins and moved to Penrose, Marsden Street, Parramatta. Their daughter was botanical illustrator Dorothy Watkins.
