    Lieutenant James S. L. Ross was born in Moruya in New South Wales.

    The Australian government offered a prize of £10,000 for the first Australians in a British aircraft to fly from Great Britain to Australia. On 13 November 1919, Alliance P.2 Seabird (G-EAOX) named 'Endeavour', piloted by Captain Roger M. Douglas and Lieutenant J. S. L. Ross, took off from Hounslow Heath, but within 20 minutes it crashed at Surbiton, England with the loss of both pilots.
