    Jack Kerrigan (1917-1945), was the son of Michael and Inez Kerrigan of South Hurstville, New South Wales and a former Kogarah High student and “electric clock worker”. In 1941, Jack enlisted in the 2/1 Australian Medical Regiment A.I.F. and in 1943, joined the 9th Squadron RAAF as a Flight Sergeant. He was shot down over Leuna, Germany on the 14 January 1945 and died on the 22 March 1945, as a prisoner of war in the Stalag IVG hospital, Germany.

    Heather Joan Woods (-1998) was the daughter of Percy and Elsie Woods, of Kogarah, New South Wales.

    Twenty six letters most with corresponding envelopes, written by Jack Kerrigan to Miss Heather Woods, Kogarah, New South Wales, May 1941-January 1945. Four postcards of New York City are enclosed with one letter. Jack Kerrigan shares his experiences with the 2/1 Australian Medical Regiment A.I.F. and later as a Flight Sergeant with the R.A.A.F. and R.A.F.
    Three letters from Kerrigan family members, Hurstville, New South Wales, to Miss Heather Woods and Mrs Woods, January 1945-November 1946 relaying the news that Jack had died as a prisoner of war in Stalag IVG, Germany.
