Esme Timbery (1931-2023) was a Bidjigal elder and artist, renowned for her shellwork. Aunty Esme was a descendant of the Timbery family from La Perouse, and she learnt her shellwork skills from her mother, grandmother and aunts. Her great-grandmother, Queen Emma Timbery, exhibited shell works in London in 1910. Marilyn Russell, Aunty Esme's eldest daughter, continues the shellworking tradition. Esme Timbery died on 6 October 2023, aged 92.
