  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Peter Hurst (1930-1965) originally worked as an interior decorator before studying art in England. He then became a costume designer and in 1955 began working at Phillip Street Theatre. He also undertook freelance work, including designing Katharine Hepburn's costume for the Taming of the Shrew when she toured Australia in 1955. He produced many of his costume designs from his Artarmon home.

  • Collection history
    Upon Peter Hurst's death, collection passed to Hurst's sister Pamela May Gerard, then to her daughter Kahla Gerard.
