  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Sir Thomas Henley (1860-1935), politician and building contractor, was born at Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, England, and migrated to Sydney in about 1884.
    Henley was alderman for Drummoyne in 1898-1934 and four times mayor and was elected to the Legislative Assembly as a Liberal and Reform candidate for Burwood which he represented until 1935 (Ryde, 1920-27).

    Sir Charles Lloyd Jones (1878-1958), was a merchant and arts patron. His grandfather was David Jones, and he began work in the David Jones clothing factory in 1902 and was its chairman from 1920 to 1958.
