  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    John Raymond Griffen-Foley (1911–1991) was a journalist, specialising in film, on the Sydney 'Sun' from 1937 to 1946. In 1946–1947 he was a feature writer for K.G. Murray’s 'Man' and editor of 'Cavalcade'. From 1947 to 1952 he worked for and edited 'Film Weekly', and launched 'B&T' and 'Film Monthly'. He was freelance from 1952 to 1954, when he joined Australian Consolidated Press, where he reviewed film, theatre and ballet and edited the Leisure and Pleasure section for the 'Daily Telegraph' and 'Sunday Telegraph'. He freelanced from 1969 to 1975. ‘Griff’ was also honorary secretary of the Sydney Film Festival until 1967 and wrote scripts and commentaries for films.
