  • Scope and Content
A hand-drawn poster with three black and white photographic prints pasted onto a sheet of cardboard. Photograph one is in the top right corner and is of ‘Euroka’ the residence of George Richard Dibbs, M. P. To the right of the photo is the heading, “Graythwaite in its present form on completion in about 1870”. Photograph two is on the middle left of the poster and is a portrait of Sir George Richard Dibbs KCMG. The photograph’s description is on the right and reads, “Sir George Richard Dibbs K.C.M.G. who rebuilt ‘Euroka’ on its purchase from E. M. Sayers and renamed the property ‘Graythwaite’. He sold it to his brother in 1878". The third photograph is in the lower right corner and is of a large group of men and women seated outside ‘Graythwaite’. The photograph’s description is on the lower left and reads “Sir Thomas Allwright Dibbs centred in a group of bank employees for whom he gave a reception on his retirement in 1915. He presented the property to the people of NSW in 1916”. ‘Graythwaite’ is in North Sydney, N.S.W. It became a convalescent hospital for soldiers during World War I. In 2009 the Supreme Court of New South Wales overturned the original deed of gift and ‘Graythwaite’ was put on the market. The neighbouring Church of England Grammar ‘Shore’ School bought the house and its surrounding garden. ‘Graythwaite’ was restored and now (2017) functions as a school adminstration building and museum.
