During the Sydney Writers Festival in May 2009, photographer Juno Gemes was invited to create their own photographic studio which she called The Light Room with the aim of creating a unique series of portraits of writers, journalists and publishers.

Gemes transformed the Philharmonia Studio, Pier 4/5, Hickson Road at Walsh Bay into a makeshift photographic studio on the site of the festival with a backdrop and specific lighting set ups. She then invited all distinguished writers, publishers and journalist talking part in the festival for an hour long portrait session.

This collection of images is from one of Gemes major bodies of work, ‘the Literary Life’. This born digital collection is a sub set of her archive, mainly shot on film, the visual story of her friendship and work with writers all around the world.
