  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Woollahra tram ran between Woollahra and Sydney from 1881. Steam motor no. 34 with its double decker rear car was built by Baldwin's of Philadelphia in 1882. The service was discontinued in 1895 after the opening of the Ocean Street cable tramway.

  • Scope and Content
    An albumen photograph by Henry King of the steam tram 'Woollahra' no. 34. Taken at the intersection of Ocean and Trelawney Street, Woollahra, the faces of the driver, guard and a fireman are clearly seen.

    The photograph is mounted on cardboard with 2 photographs mounted on the verso. 'Coogee Bay, Sydney' depicts bathers on Coogee Beach, and 'Watson's Bay, Sydney' shows sailing boats on the harbour. Both images are titled, undated and by unknown photographers.
