Olive Cotton (1911-2003) is recognised as one of Australia’s pioneering modernist photographers, known for her love of light and nature. After graduating with a BA from Sydney University in 1934 she went to work as an assistant at childhood friend Max Dupain’s newly opened Bond St studio. Cotton and Dupain married in 1939 but separated two years later and Cotton went to teach mathematics at Frensham School in Mittagong. During WWII Cotton ran Dupain’s Clarence St studio while he was in service from 1942 to 1945.
