The donors are the daughters of Marian Shand, a cousin of May Gibbs. The material has come to the donors by descent.

A collection of May Gibbs material, comprising family correspondence, May Gibbs' own copies of her books, some inscribed by her, and four pen and ink washes of illustrations to her books (three published, the other from an early unpublished book). There is a small amount of miscellaneous material including printed ephemera, manuscripts and fair copies of poems by May Gibbs, personal objects and seven small watercolours and pen and inks, either part of a card, cartoon or a stand alone illustration.
