    William John Carroll was born in 1837 to father Michael Carroll and mother Elizabeth Alcock Peake in Summer Hill, near Lucknow, district of Orange, New South Wales. He later married Charlotte Kinghorn on the 16th February 1860 in Fitzgeralds Swamp near Bathurst, New South Wales with whom he had seven children (Michael, Charlotte, William, Bathurst, Jessie, Margaret, Elizabeth). He held the license as publican for the `Shepherd and Flock' hotel and later worked as a Grazier.
