  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Jessica Anderson (1916–2010) was born in Brisbane, and lived most of her life in Sydney where she moved when she was 18. She began to write novels at the age of forty, having previously written short stories for newspapers and radio drama scripts. Her novels include An Ordinary Lunacy (1963), The Last Man's Head (1970), The Commandant (1975), Tirra Lirra by the River (1978) and The Impersonators (1980). The latter two novels were winners of the Miles Franklin Award.

    Elaine Barry has been an Associate Professor of English and Director of the Centre for American Studies at Monash University. She is the author of 'Fabricating the self: the fictions of Jessica Anderson' (1996).

    Papers compiled by Elaine Barry as part of her research on Jessica Anderson for her book 'Fabricating the self: the fictions of Jessica Anderson' (1996). The collection comprises: correspondence between Anderson and Barry, including letters (12) and cards (2), 1983-1996; colour photographs (10) of Anderson's childhoold home taken by Barry; copies of three radio plays printed from ABC archives microfilm: The Maid's Part, The Blackmail Caper, and Quite Sweet Really.
