  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Dr Abdul Zahir Youssofzay, archaeologist, was born in Afghanistan in 1950. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts at Kabul University in 1973 and was subsequently Director General of the Afghan Institute of Archaeology and a lecturer in archaeology at Kabul University. He was studying in India for his PhD in Buddhist Arts of Afghanistan when the Taliban captured Kabul, so he and his family did not return to Afghanistan but migrated to Australia, where they have lived permanently since 1998. He is presently a research associate with the Department of Archaeology at the University of Sydney.
