    Phil Glendenning was born in 1958 in Homebush, New South Wales, and graduated university with a degree in political science. He has been the director of the Edmund Rice Centre since its establishment in 1996 and the president of the Refugee Council of Australia since 2012. In 2017 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia.

    Phil Glendenning describes his career in the area of social justice, in Australia and internationally, and his current roles as director of the Edmund Rice Centre and president of the Refugee Council of Australia. He outlines the work of the Edmund Rice Centre in assisting people on the edges of society including asylum seekers, refugees and those affected by poverty and climate change.
