This series records details of the shareholdings of The Sun Newspapers Limited. The entries are divided into 'shares acquired' and 'shares transferred'. Shares acquired includes the following: Date of acquisition; how acquired (allotment or transfer) number of shares; distinctive numbers; certificate number amount paid per share, and capital. Shares transferred includes date of transfer; transfer number; number of shares; distinctive numbers; amount paid per share and balance of shares held.
The series consists of three items for two of which it appears that all of the shares had been disposed by 1928. As there is considerable overlap in the date range it is possible that these were registers for separate stock exchanges such as Sydney and Melbourne. However there is no indication of this on the records and the addresses of the shareholders do not support such a theory.
The third item is contains the same information as the earlier ones although it is in a different format. Many of the shareholders are employees of the Sun in the Sydney, Newcastle or Melbourne offices. This contrasts strongly with the earlier volumes for which most shareholders are business or professional people. The account of the Trustees for Associated Newspapers Ltd appears to continue until 10 March 1937
