  • Scope and Content
Boomerang was a publication prepared by the employees of John Fairfax and Sons Pty Ltd for their colleagues serving in the armed forces during World War II. The role of Boomerang was to keep staff members informed of the whereabouts and activities of their colleagues. In the first issue the authors noted that Boomerang was "Launched with the goodwill of "The House" compiled with care and enthusiasm, and despatched in anticipation of the pleasure it may give old friends overseas, in advanced posts, or in Australia ... [It was anticipated] that "Boomerang may be regarded as a measure of our appreciation of a job magnificently done by our fighting men."
The name 'Boomerang' was the result of submissions by staff eventually selected by a straw poll. It was the nomination of Jim Leigh
Boomerang included obituaries of those killed in action, reports regarding the whereabouts and achievements of those serving in the war, news regarding the operations of the Sydney Morning Herald in wartime environment and reports about the Sydney Morning Herald Comforts Fund.
The final issue included a complete list of staff who served in the war, a roll of honour and an article concerning the comforts fund

A typescript index to the main subjects (not people or places) was prepared some time after publication. It is unknown when or by whom this was prepared.
