  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Administration Manager was responsible for a range of support services including staff management and accounting. In 1945 records indicate that the main functions of the Department were ; to process the payroll - Wages, Salaries and pensions; for the duration of World War II to submit a manpower report to the Commonwealth government. This was discontinued at the end of 1945; to keep statistics regarding the quantity of newsprint received and used; to administer the staff pension fund: and prepare the quarterly reports of income and expenditure for management. According to the Manager P.H. Palmer "These accounts are drawn up in considerable detail, and the explanation of variation in items of income and expenditure necessitates considerable research."
    By 1966 there was a computing Department within the Administration Department. This evolved into the Electronic Data Processing Department by 1970.
    By 1972 the agency appears to become known as the 'Administration and Accounts Departments'.
