  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Plans to improve Company links with retired people were discussed early in 1972, at the instigation of Mr. R.P. Falkingham, the then General Manager. As a result of these discussions a meeting of former members of the staff was called for the afternoon of September 20th, 1972, and 219 responded. The meeting was held in the newly completed Auditorium on the seventh floor of the Broadway Building, and was attended also by representatives of the current senior staff. No application or membership fee would be required.
  • Scope and Content
The first REA Newsletter was published during 1978. The Committee intended to publish 3 to 4 issues per year. It was the idea of Allan Glover, a member of the REA who was employed by Editorial and the Promotions Department prior to retirement. Allan Glover edited the No. 1 issue and accepted appointment of Editor thereafter.
Issue number 2 was published in February 1979
The President (Mr Scotford) at the Annual General Meeting referred to a letter received from Mr. R. P. Falkingham, General Manager, in which he wrote :- "The REA Newsletter has developed nicely indeed. It has become a worthy addition to the activities of the Association and a credit to those who are responsible for putting it together"
Maggie Vaile M.B.E, took over as editor from Allen Glover, her first issue was No.10, June, 1981. In 1985 Bill Beckett took over editorship followed in 1991 by Les Wheeler, former Herald sporting editor.
The series also contains a copy of the History of the REA from 1972-1991 with attachments
