Established in 1959 The Fairfax Provident Fund contributed $1 per week for every employee with more than ten years' service, with no supplement by employees.

By 1959 the purpose of the Fund was; To provide fully secured individual personal benefits and retiring allowances for employee's. The setting up of the Fund and the making of contributions by the Company is a privilege granted by the Company. The company may on the giving of six month's notice reduce suspend or terminate its contributions.
Membership: Initial membership is open to all full time male and female employees of John Fairfax Limited, John Fairfax and Sons Pty. Ltd, or any subsidiary or associated company of John Fairfax Limited, who had before 1st July, 1959, completed ten years service with one or more of the companies mentioned. These employees will become members as from the 1st July 1959
